Instantaneos

In the digital age, it would seem anachronistic to even think of making a living shooting instant film. Yet, that is exactly what this group of individuals do on most weekends at Plaza Olvera and MacArthur Park in Los Angeles. Some have been working at the same location for over two decades and although a few (about two) carry digital cameras, it does not look like they will retire their instant cameras anytime soon. The fact that these individuals continue to produce and sell instant photographs in Los Angeles is reflective of the presence of a larger subaltern community, a community of immigrants which evolves at its own pace; yet, simultaneously and despite the demands of the dominant culture.
